So I ran 13.1 miles on sunday!

So Lydia shared a funny article from TheOnion.com and it basically was in regards to what I'm about to write about.  My accomplishment of running my very first half marathon!

The day before the race, we went to the marathon expo where we go our bibs and some other fun stuff to prove that we ran the race.  We checked into our hotel and then headed to Berkeley because Steve and Susie were awesome enough to make us turkey rigatoni....IT WAS AMAZING! I was able to spend time with Sam (who I hadn't seen for a few days), Conner and the rest of the family.  LaRoyshia and I carbed up went back into the city.  We woke up early because our race start was 6:02am! I was ready but I was also a nervous reck!

I started out great!  I was running about 11 minute miles...We got to the Golden Gate and what an amazing thing to be able to run accross it!  It was also fun because they were celebrating the 75th anniversary of the bridge.  When I got to the other side of the bridge I had to stop and go to the medical desk because the blister that has been bothering me for awhile started to flare up again, so I had to take my shoe and put mole skin on the blister.  That slowed me down BIG time.  Not only because I had to stop and adjust my shoe, but because I had ran 8 miles by that point and it was really hard to get back into the grove.  Mile 10 started out going down hill!  I was booking it, but then came mile 11, a long big hill!  I just couldn't do it, I had to walk most of the mile, I was tired, my hips were tight and I was pretty much pissed at my time!  But in your head, you are like, "dude, I have 2 more miles left."  So I sucked it up and ran the rest of the way, it was a slow jog, but I did it.  Sam met me at the turning point of mile 13 and ran with me for a second and then pushed me to have a strong finish.  When I crossed that line, I was so relieved and proud I started to tear up!  I really am very proud of myself.  There was no doubt that I wouldn't finish the race, or not do the race.  I comitted to it and I was going to finish it, well, unless I couldn't physically do it because my leg fell off.

I'm hooked and I will do a few more of these!  I had a blast training with LaRoyshia, I definetely would not have stuck to the schedule without her.  Thank you Lydia for talking me into doing the race.  And thank you to my family and friends that cheered me on.  It means a lot to me to have such a strong support system.

Here are a few pictures:
Right before the race.  Like my sleeves?  I cut the foot of some socks!
Mile 5, right before the bridge....
Running across the bridge.
All done!!
