Living La Vida De Keri and Sammy...: A little escape to Monterey, CA!

The week before Labor Day Sam had to be in Carmel/Monterey California for work! (I know rough life right?!) So we decided it would be a great place to take a mini-babymoon! What's a babymoon you ask? Well, to be honest, it's just a vacation, but it's something you do BEFORE the baby comes. The thought is to take a trip and just enjoy the peace and quite. Either way, it's a great excuse to travel!

I flew to San Jose on Friday and Sam came and picked me up and we drove down to Monterey. Monterey is BEAUTIFUL! It's on the coast and with the Rim Fire in Yosemite covering Reno with terrible smoke it was nice to get out and breathe the fresh ocean air!

Friday night we had dinner at a great restaurant called 1833. I highly recommend it although I would make sure you know that it's a trendy restaurant/bar so the crowd can get a little loud. Either way, the food was amazing. We had bone marrow for an app, Sam ordered the Grilled New York Steak and I had the Parmesan Crusted Chicken, both were delicious!

Saturday we were able to drive around 17 mile drive at Pebble Beach for a bit, we also drove down the coast and had an AMAZING lunch at Rocky Point Restaurant. The view of the ocean was just incredible and it was so nice to sit and enjoy the sunshine!

Sunday we went to the Monterey Aquarium! It was a bit of a cluster because it was so busy there and parking was a bit of a pain. We got our tickets and walked into the aquarium, we were about to walk out of the aquarium to pay the parking meter (we were going to come back) when one of the employees suggested that we stay and watch the feeding frenzy in the large aquarium! Boy were we glad we did! It was too cool. They had Mahi Mahi (yellow and blue fin tuna), 2 hammer head sharks, anchovies and sardines all swimming around their 1.2 million gallon tank. They fed the Tuna first (squid) because they are faster eaters, and as the tuna were eating you could see the anchovies and sardines swimming around in a huge cluster waiting patiently to be fed. They would swim up when they thought it was their turn but the minute a Tuna would come up and swim close to them they would all swim down....we are talking thousands of anchovies and sardines! It was a really cool experience. After the aquarium we ended up driving to Berkeley to see Connor, Susie and Steve. Sam was itching to go home because he had been gone all week, and I really didn't blame him. We had a great dinner with the three of them and got back in the car and drove to Reno.

It was a wonderful weekend and I'm so happy we were able to spend some time together!
